It has a fantastic selection of character restaurants and hotels to quench your thirst and appetite. There are also a number of historic landmarks and buildings that give Devon its own unique history, which creates this warm vibe about the local people who take pride in their heritage and local knowledge of the surrounding areas. The one thing about Devon is that it is welcoming whatever time of the year you choose to visit us.

Attractions & Activities.......................

Devon is one of those county’s where you can do just about anything you can think of to provide value and entertainment to your visit. One of the biggest attractions to Devon is its long coastal walks, some of which are not for the faint hearted; it’s dramatic coastline is a sight for sore eyes. There are some great walks situated a close driving distance to The Exmoor White Horse Inn; some of which can actually be walked to and from the hotel. So if you enjoy walking and seeing some breathtaking scenery, then this is for you. Another major tourist point is the long sandy beaches and communities of Saunton, Croyde, Putsborough & Woolacombe. Each town / village has numerous shops, cafes, restaurants and places for live music, etc, to keep you entertained for hours on end - a great day out for most people. Of course we can't be lead astray from the fact the main point is the beaches themselves. Whether you like building sandcastles, riding donkeys, eating fish and chips along the beach-front or simply fancy a dip in the ocean, there is lots to offer for people of all ages. One of the major sports in North Devon and Cornwall is Surfing, Body Boarding and Kite Surfing. These beaches have some fantastic breaks for surfing in particular and the water can get pretty crowded in the summer with people visiting for the weekend. Surf lessons can be booked at any of these places as well as board and wetsuit hire at a cost. Of course this is just a short 15-20 minutes drive from The Shippen or just a little longer if you visit from The Exmoor White Horse Inn.

For the more less abled and elderly people, the North Devon area has some fantastic National Trust properties that tell there own story and uniqueness. For example, Arlington Court has some of the most fantastic gardens and an esteemed Carriage collection. Also there are some really quaint but appealing little fishing villages like Lynton & Lynmouth and Clovelly - a great way to spend the day by the ocean. Learn about the Lynmouth Flood Disaster, see the marine wildlife or take a stroll around the Valley Of The Rocks. The towns themselves offer the more lively entertainment from concerts, theatres, and performances, to wakeboarding, bowling, cinemas and general bars, clubs and restaurants.

Devon offers a few adventure playgrounds and wildlife parks for the kids to be entertained, so the parents can just sit back and relax. The Milky Way, Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park and The Big Sheep have lots to offer for those of us that are young at heart. A little closer to home at The Exmoor White Horse Inn, you can enjoy moorland walks, a 3 hour excursion on the Exmoor Safari, which is the Original Red Deer Safari on Exmoor, trips in the car to little hidden hamlets and gems or jump on a bike and enjoy the moor at your own pace. Most of the points of interest on Exmoor are within a 20 minute car journey. If you fancy some tuition then through the Hotel you can book Fly Fishing and Photography Tuition through Lewis and Peter Hendrie respectively. Lewis runs Fly Fishing tuition through the hotel for those avid fishermen or anyone who fancies a fun day out. Lewis made the National Fly-fishing Team at Youth level and is qualifying for the men's team. He is the perfect person to teach you how to fly-fish. You will be surprised that, for his age, his knowledge and skills for fly fishing and the rivers rivals that of any experienced fishermen, if not surpasses it. Peter has been doing Landscape photography now for over 15 years and his keen eye to capture the beauty and magic of Exmoor and the rest of the planet has seen him recognised as a leading tutor for the photographic group Light & Land. Peter has also won the prestigious Travel Photographer of The Year competition in the Iconic category for his images of Paris in 2005. He has recently started to offer private tuition to those who wish to improve their photography skills.
